4 out of 5 stars Wear a Jock Strap   February 19, 2010
R. Hayward (Columbia, MD)
Like others have said, on their own the cup and the shorts are great. Combined, not so much. Following the recommendation of a fellow reviewer I just wear my jock strap under the shorts everything works great. I use the shorts for BJJ and they are very comfortable they help keep my rashguard from riding up. I will probably buy another pair sans cup.

2 out of 5 stars Floating cup could do more damage than good.   October 28, 2009

I'm going to have to agree with a couple of the other reviews on this site. This is not a good design for a compression short/cup combo. We do a lot of ground fighting and any sort of movement that doesn't involve me standing strait up, causes the cup to move around in the lame pocket that is built in to the shorts. So instead of covering my valuables, the cup's edges end up directly over them. I shudder to think what getting kicked or jammed will feel like when it is in just the wrong place. br / br /My only hope if I want to still use the cup is to buy a regular jock and hope the cup fits in OK. The compression shorts are very comfortable though, I will continue to wear them.

3 out of 5 stars Good not great   October 12, 2009
High Flyer (Chicago, IL)
I have been wearing a Shock Doctor jockstrap and cup for a while and thought I would try the compression shorts to see if they were any more comfortable. The shorts are OK, but I prefer the jockstrap because everything stays where it should and I feel better protected that when wearing the shorts.

2 out of 5 stars Good on their own, but together, crap   September 3, 2009

The compression shorts are comfortable, fit well, and keep everything together nicely. You know, where it all should be. The cup is solid, but flexible, and breathable. But when you actually put the cup inside the pocket on the compression shorts... you have to wonder what the people at Shock Doctor were thinking. br / br /First of all, the pocket for the cup is OUTSIDE of the compression shorts. So when the cup is inserted, it just kind of floats there above your junk. It's not very snug, not very tight. Lo and behold, the first time I was kicked while wearing the cup/shorts combo, it pinched something fierce and scared me for my future progeny. br / br /There is a quick fix: if you wear the cup in a jock underneath the shorts then all is well. It works quite nicely this way. But that entails buying a jock. Which was not my intention in buying this combo in the first place.

3 out of 5 stars shorts alone are great, cup is poorly designed   August 25, 2009
Dave (NYC)
When I bought these I already owned a couple pairs of the UnderArmour version. As much as I love UA products, I decided to order these, the shorts themselves are great, the fit me very well, a little looser than the UA but no big deal. The cup however, terrible design. It's very narrow, and tapers to a point (towards the bottom) don't have to try these on to know why that's a problem. I put the cup I was already using in and it fits much better, but the cup pocket is cut to accommodate the other one so it's not a great fit and it tends to move around very loosely (a little freedom is nice but that's not what this is) br / br /I study muay thai (with a tae kwon do influence) br /***UPDATE*** I am now currently taking a variation of tae kwon do. needless to say, i still love these shorts.
